A developmental edit.
An in-depth analysis of dialogue, character, plot, plausibility, marketability, pacing, tone & flow, clarity and emotional impact.
Includes:
An extensive report: reports are typically 8-10 pages minimum, but this will depend on the volume of feedback I form on a case-by-case basis.
Chapter-by-chapter breakdown for ease of revisions.
In-line comments throughout the margin. This does not include line edits.
Support through revisions: in addition to email support, you may also submit a 10,000 word section of your manuscript to me (or 2× 5000 word sections if you prefer) at any point during your revisions process. I will provide written feedback on this section.

An additional pass for returning manuscripts
An additional pass of a manuscript that has already been through a Full Dissection edit with me, covering character, plot, plausibility, pacing, tone & flow, clarity and emotional impact
Includes:
In-line comments (not line edits) in the margin, focused on revised areas/changes.
A short written report, focused on revised areas/changes. Reports are typically 1-2 pages minimum, but this will depend on the volume of feedback I form on a case-by-case basis.

*Please note that a 25% deposit is payable via BACS to secure your slot.
*A free, no-obligation sample edit on a 1000-word section from the middle of the manuscript (Full Dissections only) is required for all bookings. However, please be aware that although this will give you a sense of my in-line commenting style, broad-spectrum developmental feedback can only be given in context when working on the full manuscript. For example, I can't give feedback on pacing, character arcs, structure, etc… in a sample edit when I cannot see the full scope of the story. The sample is more for me to check that I feel able to offer helpful critique on your work, and for you to check that our communication styles/creative vision align.

How does it work?
Drop me a DM, or message through my website (linked in bio). Let me know the service you’re after, the rough time frame you’re looking for, and the genre/exact word count of your manuscript. My availability is updated regularly on my Instagram page @jesshartlit.
I’ll get in touch to arrange a sample edit (for Full Dissections only). Then I’ll return the edited sample with the offered slot and quote/time frame, along with some terms for you to look through (to protect us both) and my payment info. If you’re happy with everything, go ahead and send over the 25% deposit to secure your slot!
You’re booked in! If something goes awry and you need to postpone, I am happy to roll your deposit over to the next available slot.
When it’s time, you’ll send over your completed manuscript in a Word doc, along with the 2nd 25% of your quoted price.
I will get to work on your project. You can ask questions/ask for updates if you need to!
Your completed project will be made available to you on the deadline, as agreed. Then, once the final 50% (this can be split across 2 payments of 25%, if preferred) of the quoted price is received, I will release the materials to you. You are welcome to clarify any points made or any questions you have via email during your revisions process, and some services include additional follow up support (please see the services page). You may request additional editing passes post-revisions or follow up zoom/phone calls, though these will be subject to an additional fee, and subject to availability.
Hopefully after working with me, you’ll want to leave me an unprompted review! As a one-woman team, this is appreciated more than you know.
