Hi, I’m jess.

People are often surprised to learn that, despite words being my first love, I actually ended up singing my way around the world on cruise ships for the first 7 years of my career. And while I loved it, I always felt like I was missing something.

Fast forward to 2022. I began working in a secondary school tutoring English. My love of writing and books flooded back, and after a period of dithering while terrified to take the plunge, I eventually began an MA in Creative Writing & Publishing in 2024 with Bournemouth University, and got a job as a Waterstones bookseller to boot.

I graduated from my MA last year with distinction. Now, I write dark romantasy novels in my free time (I am in the process of writing my second, with the intention of querying in the summer), and am currently enrolled in Curtis Brown Creative’s 3-month novel-writing course to continue my own development as a writer.

On the editing side, I am currently undertaking a range of editing qualifications with Liminal Pages, the Chartered Institute of Editing & Proofreading and the Publishing Training Centre, which I hope to have completed by the end of 2026. I have an engaged following on Instagram, where I regularly share updates on my own work along with self-editing tips and updates to my services.

My ethos as an editor is simple: I want to provide authors with affordable tools to strengthen their writing and their stories. I aim to be thorough and honest- there is little point in you paying me to tell you how wonderful everything is, though I love to hype my clients up, too! Growth does not come from staying stagnant, and constructive critique is a powerful tool. But I also aim to keep my feedback empowering and kind. As a writer, I, too, have been upset by thoughtless feedback in the past. I certainly do not ever want to be the person who makes you close your laptop and not want to open it back up again. That’s not helpful, and it’s certainly not kind. If you’ve been looking for an editor who will deliver honest critique in a way that hopefully won’t feel soul-destroying, I’d be delighted to try and be that person for you.

In my free time, you will find me either walking, writing or reading. I love true crime, thrillers, romance, romantasy and fantasy, but to be honest, I’ll read just about anything (although extreme gore is a little much for my sensitive brain). If you have something witchy, dark, whimsical or drenched in yearning, I can guarantee I’d love to work on it.

If you’re considering working with me, get in touch! I promise I’m not as scary as I look…
